PzH 2000
The PzH Panzerhaubitze 2000 or 2000 ( Armoured Howitzer 2000) is a self-propelled howitzer (in English: self-propelled howitzer), produced by a consortium formed by KMW and Rheinmetall for the German Army; then the vehicle is also chosen by other armies including Italy, Holland, Greece, Lithuania and Croatia. The PzH 2000 Italians are built instead licensed by the IOC .
Since the '60s, more than 25 states across the world were equipped with self-propelled howitzer M109, including the UK, Italy and Germany; they decided in the 80s to develop a self-propelled howitzer in Replacement dell'M109, the PzH-155 or SP70. The initial project proved a failure because of problems in dell'SP70 design, so in 1986 the project was completed and it was started another in 1987 without the United Kingdom (who developed the AS 90), leading to the design of PzH 2000 with the first prototype completed in 1993.
The PzH 2000 has a main gun L52 (manufactured by Rheinmetall) by 155mm with a length of 8 meters with grooves formed by 60 lines, characterized by a technical life of 2500 shots and with a volume of 23 liters dust collector (with the M109L L39 cane he had 19). The howitzer has a fully automated charging system, compatible with all the ammunition of 155 mm NATO; the PzH is also capable of carrying up to 60 ammo and shoot 8-10 strokes / min with a maximum range of 41 km. The howitzer has capacity MRSI (Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact), ie the ability to hit a target with multiple shots at the same time, shooting at different times.
As secondary armament is a machine gun 7.62 mm MG placed on the tower.
The front of the 2000 PzH armor provides protection against 14.5-mm ammunition and the rest of the armor is able to resist the fire of small arms or artillery shrapnel. You can also mount packages ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) for added protection, both around the vehicle on the turret.
The crew consists of 3 members (commander, driver and gunner) located in the weapons bay, but can carry up to 5 if the charging system is malfunctioning, thus requiring 2 refillers. When you finish the ammunition on board, the PzH 2000 can be replenished in less than 12 minutes.
The diesel engine is an MTU MT881 Ka-500 8-cylinder engine that develops 1000 hp (736 kW) with maximum speed of 60 km / h and the field of operation of 420 km (with 3 additional reservoirs); also it presents the additional unit capable of supporting all systems when the main motor is off. The total weight of the medium is approximately on 55t.
And 'finally it presents an NBC protection system and against fires on board.
For the PzH 2000 variants is the use of the turret on different hulls (the PzH is based on a hull Leopard 1 / Marder 1):
1) on the AGM AGM module (Artillery Gun Module: M270 hull) is a turret with 155 mm cannon (but can also be equipped with other calibers) which can be mounted on different excavators hulls, as for example on the M270.
This type of system is significantly lighter than PzH 2000 while maintaining the same performance: although the number of ammunition carried is less, the total weight of the AGM M270 hull is against 27t 55t.
